From 2009
Brothers,
We have reached a total of 164 committed attendees. Firm numbers are due to Furman in the morning, so our plan right now is to go for 22 tables (176 seats) and 160 meals (176 counting 10% overage). This should cover us if a few bodies show up unexpectedly but shouldn't be too excessive in case of no-shows.
If you have any possible commitments, please confirm them and let me know by 11:00 pm Wednesday morning. Do not commit to more seats after that point, or we stand the chance of exceeding our reservation.
We can still do advertisements up until Friday, so use the attached document to solicit advertisements through this Thursday. Ad sales are down, so if you know of any business, groups, or individuals that you have not asked yet, please do so and send all text and/or images for ads to Bobby (carlc@clemson.edu) or me by Friday morning.
Fraternally,
John Middleton

2021 MLK Scholarship Celebration
Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation (AGF) and Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter have released our plan for 42nd Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Celebration for 2021. We will be holding the event virtually on Saturday, January 9, 2021, starting at 12 noon.
We have decided to change our event from a Luncheon to a virtual Celebration because of the current COVID19 Crisis and our concern for the safety of our community. The MLK Scholarship Celebration seeks to raise funds for the Foundation's efforts to support local youth in the Upstate of South Carolina. We also take pride in the first and oldest Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Event in the Upstate of South Carolina and our selection of our Martin Luther King Jr. Citizenship Award Winner.
We are asking for our supporters to purchase a virtual ticket for $40, which allows a person or household with an email address to connect to our event via Zoom. Virtual tickets will be available on our Eventbrite website at mlkgala2021.eventbrite.com, through GGL Brothers, or by calling our AGF Foundation phone line at (864) 735-0880. Straight donations can be made on this website.

2017 MLK Scholarship Gala Request
Brothers of GGL,
I greet you in the name of Alpha.
It is that time of year to start preparing for our 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Gala. Our yearly event will once again be held at Furman University on January 29th, 2017 at 3:00 pm.
We are asking all brothers of GGL to sell a minimum of 8 Tickets. Tickets are $50.00 each. Sponsorships have become a challenge over the last few years and without the support of sponsorships and ticket sales from each brother, this event would not be a success. If you are able to solicit $1,000 in sponsorships, you will not be expected to sell 8 additional tickets. We will be at Barnes & Noble 735 Haywood Rd on Thursday, November 3rd between 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm to hand out tickets to those brothers that can come by. Please let me know if you are not able to come by so that we can make other arrangements.
Included in this packet is a copy of the sponsorship information. All ticket sales and donations from sponsors must be complete by December 25th, 2016.
On behalf of the committee members and myself, we would like to thank all of you in advance for your support in making this event a success.
If you have any questions, you may contact me at the number listed below or you may visit the chapter atwww.alphagreenville.org.
An Alpha Phi Alpha man’s altitude should not be “how much can I derive from the Fraternity?” but “how much can I do for the Fraternity?”.
Yours Truly,
Allen Cook

2016 MLK Scholarship Gala Status Report:
MLK Gala:
Right now the biggest thing that GGL brothers need to prepare and plan for are the selling of their allotment MLK Tickets. We have gone to press with the ticket order and we're expecting to have them back before the 26th of October. Don Weston will be responsible for the distribution and tracking of tickets to brothers. Tickets will be $50 each and brothers will be given an allotment of 8 tickets. Please see the attached Sponsor sheet for brothers. It has been uploaded to the Brothers Only Site, but please print off several for brothers to have in hand. It's very necessary that we push hard for ticket sales this year. GE has backed away from supporting us this year, so the $3K - 5K they were providing is not happening. We got to make a push to recover a part of that lost sponsor money.
We've secured the Younts center for this year's event and the event will take place on January 10, 2016. We need brothers to step up and find some businesses or individuals to purchase the $150 sponsorship package. This would be Churches, doctors, families, or whatever groups they are a part of.
Also have brothers look for the recommendation for this year's citizenship award recipient. Furman Jackson please provide the criteria for selecting a MLK Citizenship nomination. We should be make plans to vote on these candidates in the November Meeting.
We will have a status meeting conference call on 10/20. All those that are interested in joining that call can do so by contacting me so I can send them the meeting reminder by 10/19.
